Carridine Brooks: ITX Advisory

SMME FEATURE

Carradine Brooks, the Managing Director of ITX Advisory, embodies the spirit of resilience and determination in his entrepreneurial journey. A seasoned professional with a background in prestigious firms such as KPMG, Deloitte, and EY, Carradine's passion for taxes and a desire for independence led him to establish ITX Advisory.

Carradine's journey began with academic achievements at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, followed by a significant tenure at KPMG in Johannesburg. His roles at Deloitte and Mercedes-Benz SA further deepened his expertise in tax. However, the constraints of a corporate "desk job" motivated Carradine to seek a more dynamic path. In 2016, Carradine ventured into EY as an Automotive Specialist, eventually leading a team in the Johannesburg Customs Team. The urge to "do his own thing" persisted, and in 2018, he founded ITX Advisory.

The early stages presented challenges, particularly in market penetration and the absence of an established brand. Overcoming these hurdles required navigating the intricacies of marketing, service delivery, and financial management independently. One significant breakthrough came when leveraging established relationships in the auto and pharma industries opened doors to Blue Chip clients, including BMW, Toyota, Abbott, and Eaton. This success prompted the adoption of a subcontractor model, facilitating collaboration with BDO and the expansion of ITX's services.

The resilience displayed during the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with strategic partnerships, positioned ITX Advisory for sustained growth. The company successfully rolled out the subcontractor model with audit firms and secured long-term contracts, notably with BMW. Collaborating with Sway-It, a Dutch company, ITX is set to become the sole provider of a Customs Control platform in Africa. Looking ahead, Carradine envisions expanding the subcontractor model across African countries, establishing a Trade School of Excellence, and licensing the Sway-It IT platform to multinational companies. Despite the ambitious plans, Carradine takes a pragmatic approach, emphasizing adaptability in the volatile economic landscape. Reflecting on the importance of entrepreneurship to economic well-being, Carradine underscores its role in job creation and innovation. He sees South Africa on a positive trajectory for growing successful entrepreneurs, acknowledging the need for a conducive political and economic environment to foster further growth. Carradine's journey exemplifies the transformative power of entrepreneurship and strategic vision in navigating the complexities of the business landscape.
